This website is designed to support teachers of science, construction, environmental and land-based studies. It is suitable for use with students at Key Stages 4 and 5.
The Avenue is an ambitious project. It is the largest single project in the National Coalfields Programme with a budget of £172.3 million to clean up the site of the former Avenue Coking Plant. It is a great area for students of history, science, construction, environmental and land-based studies to explore.
The site is structured around three main areas:
- The history of the site
- The clean up operation
- Plans for the future.
The site contains videos and detailed teachers notes to bring the Avenue’s challenges into the classroom for young people to explore.
